Rain Rain Go away

Not really, we love the rain, as long as it´s not devastating to lives, homes and businesses, then its much welcomed and needed. However, it seems Spain has been suffering from storm cycles one after another for the last 3 weeks.

Luckily, following the Valencia floods, the rest of the country has learned valuable lessons, and apart from damage to bridges, farms and some homes, the loss of life has been minimal.

Meanwhile, countries north of Europe have been enjoying unusually good weather with the UK having one if its warmest month of March on record. Now with many of the reservoirs full to capacity or at averages above the last 10 years, all I can say is give us back our beautiful weather please!

Property Update

It seems the Spanish property market is still very buoyant compared to other European counterparts. January has registered an increase of 10% in overall property sales (60,650) vs January 2024.

These are levels that haven´t been seen since the height of the 2008 financial crisis with new build sales showing an increase of 31% compared to last year, taking new build sales to 23% of total sales.

Property prices as a result have also increased by 11.3% annually, with new build homes rising by 12.3% respectively.

This has been buoyed by the increase in mortgages used to purchase homes which also rose by 11.2% helped by the reduction of the Euribor interest rate which fell to 2.36% in March 2025 compared to 3.75% this time last year.

Will this trend continue into the year? This is a difficult question, as Spain seems to be bucking the trend of other European nations such as Germany, UK or France. However, global economic worries could have an impact on the market as a whole.

While Spain doesn’t rely so much on other nations to supply their energy, this has helped it keep its economy relatively stable, however, with public enemy Trump in the white house, and potential tariff threats coming into force on 2nd April, this may see a slowing down, or even a reversal in the long term.

Joke of the Month:

An MIT linguistics professor was lecturing his class the other day. “In English,” he said, “A double negative forms a positive. However, in some languages, such as Russian, a double negative remains a negative. But there isn’t a single language, not one, in which a double positive can express a negative.”

A voice from the back of the room said, “Yeah, right.”
