Guide to Rota

Rota is a small coastal town flanked by its nearest neighbour El Puerto de Santa María. It is well known for its enormous naval base built in1953 and jointly occupied by American and Spanish navy personnel. Inside they have their own cinema, bowling alley and Taco Bell Mexican restaurant. The nearest airport “Jerez de la Frontera” is only 40mins drive. Here is where the household name sherries are produced. Being in such close proximity to Rota makes a tour of the imposing Bodegas of Jerez a “must see” for most visitors “to the area. Rota has quite a few shops and good value restaurants dotted around and the night life is lively. There are some pretty extensive beaches in the town that have been given a blue flag for excellence. These accolades are awarded annually by the FEE (Foundation for Environmental Education) to beaches with a high level of environmental maintenance and cleanliness. At the time of writing, blue flags are flying from Playa de la Ballena, Playa de la Costilla, Puntalillo, Punta Candor and Rompidillo. The ancient city of Cadiz and Capital is only 40 minutes drive away or you could take the ferry to arrive at the port.
